And my wings aren't pure white, like I thought people were supposed to get when they died. But I guess I can't really complain too much... I mean, this is better than no afterlife at all, right?

I guess I didn't expect heaven to have weird magic notebook things, either, come to think of it. But then, I've never met someone who could tell me about heaven first-hand! It's not like getting married, after all, most people don't live to tell you about it later. Hahaha...

[And then he stops the recording, looking around himself at the forest out here. Gosh, it's so lush... way more lively than the forests he'd been in! And he can see all kinds of birds in the trees, and small animals skittering about...

It was weird, that Heaven would be so much more alive than Earth.

Slowly, he drifts around the forest in his cotton pants, floating with his bony toes sometimes grazing the undergrowth and mulchy soil, absorbing the life around him and... and wondering about his friends, that he felt like he'd just seen a few minutes ago, just before he'd woken up here.

[The Replica clothes are pretty weird, too... but Papa Nier looks really cool! And isn't quite as wrinkly and... black-leather-clad as Scorpius.

Emil takes a moment to think about that. Let's see, they were on their way to defeat the Shadowlord when Emil had sacrificed himself to save his friends from a grief-stricken woman who was freaking out with her magic, and woken up here, in this Luceti place, with a pair of wings suddenly attached to his back.

Yeah! He pretends to be a jerk who doesn't care about anything, but he's actually really kind-hearted when you get to know him.

[Jeb is wandering around the forest with his sketchbook. It really is becoming a common place for him to do artwork, except during the night (for Drucilla-related reasons.)

When he sees Emil, he stops and gets a look at him. While a sight like this would be strange back home, it's not here, and after a moment he smiles.] Hello there!

[Man, the people here are really friendly, aren't they? All three of them Emil's met so far, at least-- not one of them has been afraid of him, either!

He waves one skeletal hand at the other boy, dropping a little towards the ground.]

It's a long story. This place? Most of us haven't heard about it before. At least, not until we got here. The wings are...well, they're like a package deal. You get brought here? The Malnosso--they're the one's responsible for this--give you wings. I'm not really sure about their purpose, but...well, they're there and it's best to leave them be.

I'm not sure about things being alive--I mean, they're pretty alive on my world, too, and I've never heard of shades, but...I'll assume them not being here is a good thing.

[Someone is watching the boy in the forest from her backyard. Someone who happens to be mildly terrified but too curious to run away flailing; after all, she knew a floating skull, s-so.

[The other boy looks a little older than Emil-- well, older than Emil feels, he's pretty sure he's not going to meet someone actually older than him here-- and seems almost enthusiastically kind, not just unafraid...

[The uncertainty in the creatures voice was obvious. Less so in the thermal read... even so, given just how it looked Scorpius did not really expect it to be super obvious. Hm.]

I would imagine... after all, one's arrival in a place like this is quite disorienting.

[Up and about the forest is one Taokaka, who happens to see the odd skeleton-weapon-boy. That's definitely one she hasn't seen before, so she pounces a bit closer.]

Yeah, it is! I'm kind of getting the feeling that I'm a really long way from home, too... but it was pretty interesting before that, too.

Malnosso... is it like a science experiment or something, then? Changing our bodies like this? Are they bad guys or good guys?

[Emil's got to admit, of all the things science has done to his body, this is pretty much the nicest.]

Yeah, Shades are pretty bad! They didn't usually cause me any trouble before I started traveling, but they've been attacking and killing loads of people, especially over the past few years. And one of them kidnapped my best friend's daughter...

[... Though Emil's not sure they're all evil. A lot of them, maybe, but...

He shakes off the thought, repeating keep moving forward in his head, and tells the guy he's talking to,] You're really lucky to have not heard of them!

[It takes Emil a little while to notice the girl, but when he does, he looks about as startled as a guy with one expression can, then drops to the ground, wiggling his fingers at her in a gentle wave as his heel bones settle to the forest soil.]
