[How long has it been? A month? Two, or three? Time has blurred, a little, like it did when he was living in the mansion, only broken by that week where he was human again, time slowing to a brilliant crawl, where he had skin and flesh and got hungry and felt pain in places that weren't just where his heart was supposed to be-- but then it has worn away, and he'd fled back to the forest, to sit in trees and listen to the birds chatter and watch the squirrels chase each other, and watch the sun-- the sun! Could you imagine? He'd nearly forgotten the name of it, in the thousand-some years that his world had been eternally bright and always sunless-- and the rain, another thing he's all but forgotten.
He feels in his pocket for his journal, the little book that was filled with pages and pages and pages of people living out their lives, and feels a little pain where his heart should be.
Maybe it would be okay. Maybe the people here wouldn't mind him-- the people he'd met in person hadn't, even when he'd first arrived, all bones and grins and blank white eyes. And there weren't any shades here, no reason for him to use his magic to try and defeat something, so-- so there was no real chance of him losing control, of destroying everything, like he had at the Aerie--
Maybe, maybe, maybe.
And maybe he was just so lonely, with only the not-so-bright animals talking to him, without even Kainé to tell him stories and teach him to swear, or Sebastian to sit with him and listen to him play piano, or Weiss to tell jokes to, or-- or Nier....
Maybe he was just so lonely that he was grasping at excuses to talk to people.
He pulls out the book, and flips it open, and starts a new entry.]

[Emil starts the post silently, propping the journal on the root of a tree and sitting back a little; he's still wearing his new feather plain cotton pants, and nothing else, leaving his empty ribcage for all the world to see; if it weren't for the dappled silvery wings folded against his back, a person would be able to see the forest straight through his bones.]
Um. Hi.
[He rubs his cheek, awkwardly, with his bony fingers, and says,]
My name's Emil. I've talked to some people before... but, well, not very many. Because a lot of people back home were scared of me, and...
[Nier had told him to keep moving forward, right?
But that didn't change that... Emil had done something horrible, once.]
... and they were probably right to be. I've... [He shakes his head, and falls silent for a moment, looking away from the journal; his skeletal shoulders hunch up, unconsciously, and even with his unchanging grin, it's clear that he's pretty miserable.] I've lost control, before, while fighting. And I've been involved in some... really bad things. Things that hurt people.
... But I'm here, and... I'm tired and lonely and I don't want to be outside anymore. Even if it's really cool to see the sun and rain, and listen to the animals and stuff, I don't want to be all alone. You know?
So, I want-- I mean... If I can, I would really like to move into the village, but. I want to make sure it's okay. And that I won't scare people, or bother anyone.
Um... Yeah.
[He leans forward, and ends the video.]
Action
[So, yeah! If anyone wants to find Emil in the forest near the village after that, he'll be curled in the roots of a tree, fussing with the journal and having hopes.]

To happen across a moving skeleton fiddling with a journal, that was definitely not something he'd thought he'd see today. He'd be lying if he didn't admit it more than just took him by surprise, and for many reasons.
But ... they seem to be wearing New Feather garb too. Or at least, it looks that way to him. He wasn't too sure himself. Maybe, and hopefully they're just a new arrival like everyone else.]
Hey...?
[The words just sort of come out as Rudy calls out to them, with no warning and before he can even think of exactly what to say himself.]
[action]
But for all the uncertainties and worries plaguing Emil, he's lonely as hell, and after his moment of stiff surprise, he rests the journal in his lap and waves one bony hand, shyly.]
Um, hello.
[action]
So, Emil, have a Rudy raising his hands up in a harmless, apologetic gesture. He really didn't mean to frighten anyone!]
Ah, um... Sorry 'bout that, didn't mean to startle you there.
[With a sheepish laugh, he'll wave back in an attempt to keep things on a friendly tone.]
Are you lost?
[action]
CAVIA!) So Tao is curling up somewhere nearby as well.]Meow?
[action]
But he might perk up a little at the meow, and call, quietly,] Tao? Is that you?
[action]
[And with that, she leaps up.]
It is more than understandable that you do not wish to live alone. There are few people who truly would.
[video] SIR WERE YOU AWARE THAT YOU HAVE A UNICORN HORN?
This guy has a horn! Right at the top of his forehead! And only one, not even a matched set, like the goats near his mansion had. It's pretty weird looking!]
I... I see, [and he manages to tear his gaze away from the horn, as fascinatingly weird and kind of cool as it is.] I didn't really-- I mean, I guess that makes sense! I've been places before where they didn't mind having me around, after all... I just didn't think this would be one of those places.
So, um... are you what normal's like, where you're from? [Emil has to admit, he is terribly curious, and the subject of his curiosity is made more than clear by the way he unconsciously rubs his fingertips against his forehead.]
[video] yes i do i am a rare and beautiful unicorn i know
With an amused smile, Ondorus reaches up and taps a finger against the side of his horn, nodding to acknowledge Emil's question.]
The place I come from is even more diverse than Luceti. The population changes by the day, but it is home to monsters of all shapes and sizes, and a waypoint for travelers of even more kinds. My kind are in the minority, but we are the most notable permanent residents.
[Because they run the place.]
...but if you are as gentle as you say, you shouldn't have any problem.
But if you're sure... maybe it'll be okay. I'd really like for it to not be a problem!
video
[At least, not very scary. He's run into scarier things. The personality really helps, though!]
But yeah, you don't have to worry about moving in! You should've done it sooner, I'm sure no one would've minded!
video
And-- and I guess not! I really hadn't expected so many people to be so nice, though... it's pretty great!
video
But yeah, I didn't really expect anything else! I think I'd have to talk to someone if they weren't being nice about it. Everyone's allowed here!
[Voice]
[His head is bowed, and he worries his fingers against the cloth of his pants.]
I don't want them to happen again, you know? That would-- that would be pretty much the worst thing that could happen. Doing it again.
[ voice ]
And I don't think that someone's appearance is what makes them frightening. [ he sounds like a good kid and while Hyoga isn't really sure how to be comforting and hasn't really been in Luceti long enough to really know how things work he has noticed that people are terrifyingly accepting. ]
No one should have to be alone.
"Honestly, my friend, you are more than welcome in the village. The people here, in my experience, are not inclined to aesthetic discrimination. They're really quite friendly, on the whole."
She gives him a warm, welcoming smile, to make him feel better. She doesn't so much as blink at his appearance--it's clear she's perfectly fine with the way he looks.] You can come in whenever you like.
[ Video ]
video;
But as far as skeletons go, in her experience? This one's...kinda cute. She smiles warmly as she offers her response.]
Hey. You know what? You should come in. Camping out all by yourself is only fun for so long, right?
[ video ]
.. I'll hang out with you! Then you won't have to be alone, right?
But then he hears what Emil says, and it makes him sad to hear. If he had known the boy was living out all alone, Ryoji would have invited him over for dinner or something! He knows what it's like to not want people to see the scary part of you and what loneliness is, so seeing Emil and hearing him talk like this hits home.
But Ryoji has an idea for another way to help Emil, besides simply just inviting him into the village! ]
Hi, Emil! It's nice to see you, and I really hope you like it in the village! You're definitely welcome to come visit our house any time.
Also, this Saturday, there's going to be a meet-up for everyone who isn't really a normal human to come and talk about their experiences. Would you like to come with me to that? You definitely won't be alone there, either!
[Voice]

So when she comes upon someone else in the roots of one of the trees she knows, for a startling moment it feels oddly like finding a stranger in her house.
But she pushes the feeling away. The more important detail is that there's a skeleton, still bearing the tell-tale signs of a New Feather, obviously alive and paging through his journal, not having noticed her in her semi-hidden position.
Hand still hovering near the sword baton she keeps at her hip (just in case he turns out to be the mean sort of living skeleton - oh, she's met a few) she steps out of hiding and puts on a smile.]
Hey there, mon. Do you need some help?
He sounded so sad, like he was in so much pain and she couldn't ignore that. If there was one thing Kaori could understand, it was that she didn't want to be all alone. Not here, not back home... What in the world was preventing this person from living in the village when she was allowed to?]
Y'know... you can come by, right? [Her voice is shaking just a little, even as she tries to keep up a smile. She can't say that he didn't scare her, but that was only because every new person she spoke with did. There was reason enough to try to push it aside.] People here are... really nice? That's what it seems like.
Video
And fear can be fun! You should revel in your boniness! [A more muttered addition:] Not that anyone seems to knowing the meaning of fear. Hmph.
video;
He'll admit that's a new one for him here. Lestrade will answer in a slow and deliberate sort of way, because this is likely one of those times that necessitates caution. ]
If losing control worries you, there are plenty of people living here who'd be willing to help you keep yourself in check if you think you need it. And there are plenty of people who look different, or act different, and god knows there are plenty of people who do things differently from everybody else. [ He pauses and frowns a bit. Tips his head forward in an acknowledging sort of nod. ]
It's not much good for anything else, but Luceti makes a decent clean slate if you want one. And it doesn't sound to me like you're out to cause anyone trouble, Emil. Frankly, I don't see how anyone's got the right to tell you you can't live down here with the rest of us.
[Action]
What are you looking at, Melody? [Rue asks curiously, approaching her bird and kneeling down. She looks at Emil and blinks, quite surprised at what she sees, but he also has a journal and wings too.]
Are you okay?
[voice]
Nothing can get to him!!!]
I'll even help you move in if you want.
